Retirement Security Limited (RSL) Chairman Robert Bessell, who was then Director of Social Services in Warwickshire, established the company in 1983 after recognising that there should be an alternative for older people to traditional residential and nursing care homes.

The firm became the pioneer of Very Sheltered Extra Care Housing for sale in the UK. The concept aims to maintain the independence of elderly residents, anticipate their progressive needs, enhance their quality of life and preserve their capital.
