The Owners' Management Company is another unique feature of Margaret Court.

The premise of the Management Company is that Owners – those who live in Margaret Court–determine how the court is run. From ratifying staff appointments to planning refurbishments and social programmes, Owners are given a real voice in all the key decisions.  

It is the Owners’ Management Company that employs the staff at Margaret Court and it is to this Company that the Service Charge is paid. The Owner of each apartment or bungalow automatically holds one share in the Company and residents are the only shareholders.

Shareholders elect their own Board of Directors, who meet regularly to consider the business and the running of the court. They are closely supported in this process by the Court Manager and a member of staff from Retirement Security Limited, who acts as Company Secretary.

The Owners’ Company has its own accountant and surveyor and is assisted in its management role by Retirement Security Ltd, which operates under a management agreement. To give just one example of the importance of the Owners’ Company, there can be no increase in the Service Charge each year, above the level of inflation, without an Extraordinary General Meeting of all the Shareholders.

It is this unique management model that truly sets Very Sheltered Housing apart from other assisted living and extra-care concepts.
